Joining the Road Crew for the past five and a half months were
documentary filmmakers Leslie Estelle and Kristen Coleman. In addition
to following Christian's run across the country, they met and
interviewed the survivors and families that kept him inspired along the way.
The
filmmakers explored an evolving definition of cancer survivorship by
taking into consideration those issues that make each experience with
cancer unique. Survivors across the country have shared their stories,
beginning with the moment of diagnosis to what it now means to them to be
a survivor. Also discussed were the many needs that go along with a
diagnosis; beyond the medical needs there are the emotional, spiritual,
and financial needs that affect each survivor in a different way.
The
film celebrates the strength and determination of survivors and
complements the work of the Run's main beneficiary, The Survivorship
Clinic at Yale Cancer Center. At the Survivorship Clinic doctors strive
to treat patients with a holistic approach, treating the person - not
the disease.
