Matt, a native of
Fairfield,
Connecticut, graduated from
Fairfield Prep in 2001. While a student
at Fairfield Prep, Matt was introduce to the Jesuit concept of “being a man for
others” and began his involvement in community service projects, including a
weekly commitment to Project Learn, an after school program in
Bridgeport,
CT
during his senior year.
He graduated from
BostonCollege in 2005 with a
double major in theology and honors philosophy. While in college, he continued his commitment to service and interned at
the Boston Rescue Mission, an addiction recovery and homeless shelter in
Boston where he
spearheaded a computer literacy program for the residents. This program, introduced students to basic
computer skills in order to leave them with some marketable skills, most
importantly the ability to work on their own resumes.
Although Matt started out in
BostonCollege’s Carroll School of Management, he
transferred after his freshman year to the
College of
Arts
and Sciences so that he could pursue what had become a passion. Namely, he examined the
issues that affect our communities through the lens of philosophy and theology.
Matt has returned to Fairfield Prep where he currently
teaches philosophy and remains active in community service and immersion
programs. Matt, formerly a competitive
cross country and track runner, was introduced to Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship, by Christian and is excited
about the opportunity to work together with other young adults and motivate
high school students to become involved in learning outside of their daily
classroom experiences.
