Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship Announces
Charity Spinning Classes at Evolution Fitness
Westport, CT -- All proceeds from 23-year-old Christian McEvoy's spin class at Evolution Fitness in Westport will support Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship, his 3,500 mile run across the United States this summer to raise money for the Yale Cancer Center's Survivorship Clinic.
Cancer survivorship is the experience of living with, through, and
beyond the diagnosis of cancer. The Adult Survivorship Clinic at the
Yale Cancer Center provides care and consultation to people who have
been diagnosed and treated for cancer and focuses on the long-term
effects of cancer, surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Yale Cancer
Center Survivorship Clinic is a much needed facility in Connecticut
where 50 people are diagnosed with cancer each day and across the
United States which is home to 10 million cancer survivors.
To support his cross-country run, McEvoy, a full-time
faculty member at Fairfield Preparatory, will teach the spin class on
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00 a.m. in the Westport studio until he
leaves in mid-June to begin his cross-country run. Drawing on his
experience as a competitive tri-athlete and cyclist, McEvoy focuses the
class on cycling strength skills and fitness.
"This is not simply a spinning class. The class works very
hard. I ask each member of the class to set daily goals and then we
work together to attain them. Each student has my gratitude for getting
up early and challenging themselves. These athletes are making a
difference for the 10 million cancer survivors currently living in the
United States." McEvoy said.
Evolution Fitness, a personal training studio and athletic
fitness class center, has been in Westport since 2000. It focuses on
goal setting and methodical achievement. Julie Migliaccio, Evolution's
owner, has offered spinning classes for nearly 14 years now. She
combined this with her passion for community involvement when she
offered to partner with Christian and Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship.
Migliaccio echoes McEvoy's enthusiasm, "A dedicated athlete with an
ambitious cause, Christian is an inspiration to us all. I'm proud to
sponsor him in his endeavor to run across America. Christian and I have
the same training philosophy; nothing worthwhile comes without
sacrifice and discipline."
