Linda McGowan
On June 8, 2005, Linda was diagnosed with stage I breast cancer. Though
the news was devastating, the diagnosis was made early enough to afford
her more than one treatment option. While a regimen of radiation
therapy and Tamoxifen would lower the chances that Linda's cancer would
reoccur to only 9%, she opted to undergo chemotherapy, which would
leave her 96% certain that this would be the first and only time that
she would have to endure cancer. With the support of her family, Linda
pulled through her treatment with minimal side effects. Linda's
experience has since increased her awareness of the number of women
affected by breast cancer, and the strength required to survive it. As
a nurse, she applies this knowledge and compassion daily as she focuses
her energy on caring for others.
