"Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship" Announces

'gone running'  Dinner/Dance raises $25,770 for Cancer Survivors

Fairfield, CT- Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship is pleased to announce that the gone running, Dinner/Dance, which took place on Saturday, May 13, has raised $25,770 for cancer survivorship.  Each table was adorned by centerpieces made up of products from the Coast to Coast Run’s sponsors at the event, which was held at the Scandinavian Club in Fairfield, CT.

gone running was the major fundraiser in a local series taking place in the Fairfield area before Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship kicks off in San Francisco on July 1, 2006.  Beginning on July 1, Christian McEvoy, 23, President of Challenge America Foundation, Inc., will begin a 3,500 mile cross-continental run as the centerpiece of Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship.   The run is a nationwide effort to unite the American cancer survivor community and raise funds and awareness to improve the standards of cancer survivor care and quality of life.

At the Dinner/Dance, Dr. Kenneth Miller, Director of the Yale Cancer Center Survivorship Clinic, addressed the audience with a creative presentation about cancer survivorship that wove his personal experience of the cause into his medical expertise in the field. “Dr. Miller’s words allowed the audience to really understand why they were present at the dinner/dance to support this cause.” said Matthew Pierson, the Operations Coordinator for Coast to Coast: A Run for Survivorship.

“I am so grateful to everyone who came out to support me and the 10 million cancer survivors for whom I will be running.  The evening was a great success, and I think a great preview to the successes we will have once we hit the road on July 1,” McEvoy said.
